David Johnson serves as the Executive Director of the Iowa Pupil Transportation Association (IPTA). A lifelong resident of Van Meter, Iowa, David has deep roots in both his community and the student transportation industry.
David attended Iowa State University, where he studied Agricultural Education and Political Science. Following college, he worked for Pioneer Hi-Bred as a research assistant before transitioning into student transportation. Prior to becoming Executive Director, David served as the Transportation Director for the Van Meter Community School District. During his time there, he was actively involved with IPTA, serving on the IPTA Board of Directors as well as the Maintenance and Inspection Advisory Council.
As Executive Director, David is committed to supporting IPTA members by providing the training, resources, and advocacy needed to maintain the highest standards of student transportation across Iowa. He believes strongly in collaboration and communication within the industry and works to ensure that Iowa’s transportation professionals are well-equipped to meet the evolving needs of schools and students.
Outside of his professional role, David enjoys traveling, working on the family farm, and spending time with his family.
